At Mt St Helens. It is now 21 years since the explosive
eruption on Sunday May 18, 1980 which had followed two
months of building volcanic activity. I remember
marvelling as a kid at the incredible photos of the
eruption in National Geographic magazine.
It was a major highlight of our trip to visit this
national park and see how much the
surrounding landscape has recovered from the
eruption that blew the side of the mountain off. This
is the view from the Johnson Ridge Observatory - only
ten kilometres (6 miles) from the summit.
