Vision

Updated 15 June 2001

Some may say a life-purpose based on a Godward relationship makes us somehow less than we are. But if we were designed by God to be in relationship with Him, then perhaps we should be looking outside ourselves to Him for meaning - rather than inside.

The Bible makes it clear that if there is one thing a follower of Christ has, it is a God-given destiny. We know that our existence has purpose - it has meaning. Christian tradition expresses this through the phrase:

The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

In other words, following Christ involves giving God the honour He rightly deserves and living for Him. If we are to glorify God we must see that it involves a recognition and acknowledgement of our dependence on Him. Not only that, but it is clear that genuine happiness can be found in Him alone. After all, if God is really as loving and just and good as the Bible portrays Him - and He made us to be in loving relationship with Him - then it would be foolish to not enjoy Him. How could we not?
